Movement Analysis
How it works
When the toy is wound up, it turnes a gear that turns another gear that turns a piece of plastic that moves the red box that sits on the spring motor. The red box pushes the wings up and down and because they are turning on an axis, the wings rotate and give the impression they are moving up and down.
Process
I drew the components by first measuring everything and sketching them in my notebook, then I traced photos of each piece in Illustrator and then made them the correct dimensions.
I layered the pieces on top of each other to create the movement study and changed the stroke of the moving pieces to show the difference from the static state.I am sure this would have been easier using After Effects but I do not like using After Effects, so I just imported the pngs into a gif maker for the final product.
